Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Cardiovascular Consortium

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Cardiovascular Consortium (BMC2) is a collaborative consortium of health care providers in the State of Michigan which was created in 1997. The goals of the consortium are:

  • To maintain a prospective, longitudinal multicenter registry of consecutive percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI).
  • To develop and validate risk-adjustment models for fatal and nonfatal outcomes of PCI.
  • To identify risk factors and process of care variables related to adverse outcomes of PCI.
  • To improve the quality of care for patients undergoing PCI through the development of a continuous quality improvement program including sharing of information, use of risk adjusted data and benchmarking.

The BMC2 registry currently includes data on more than 200,000 PCI collected from over 30 hospitals. The University of Michigan has been the coordinating center for BMC2 since 1997.
